Why Summer Camp?

Summer camp is where Scouting truly comes alive. Your Scout will spend a week living outdoors with their patrol, earning merit badges, trying new activities, and building friendships that last a lifetime. Many of our Eagle Scouts say summer camp was the turning point in their Scouting journey.

Trip Details

  • Camp: Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan Scout Reservation
  • Location: W6500 Spring Lake Rd, Pearson, WI 54462 (~8½ hours from Sperreng School)
  • Dates: Sunday, July 12 – Saturday, July 18, 2026
  • Departure: Sunday morning, approximately 5-6am (exact time TBD)
  • Return: Saturday morning
  • Transportation: Car pools — estimated $20-30 per person gas fee (drivers do not pay)

What Your Scout Will Do

Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan offers many program areas with numerous merit badges. Merit badge sign-up is available by April 1, 2026 once you have paid at least $125. Note that most merit badges require some pre-work before camp.

Shooting Sports tokens are only sold at the Camp's Trading Posts.

Programs for New Scouts: Trailblazer

First time at summer camp? Don't sweat it! At Trailblazer, first-year Scouts can learn almost everything needed to help them earn the Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements. Led by experienced staff, Trailblazer teaches camping, first aid, knots, lashings, swimming, map and compass, and nature skills on the beautiful Lake Killian!

For Older Scouts (13+): Coureur des Bois

Each day brings a different adventure trek with activities such as:

  • Backpacking, Canoeing, Climbing & zip-lining
  • Archery, .22 rifle, and shotgun
  • White-water rafting, Mountain biking
  • Fishing, hiking, Horseback riding
  • Team challenges

Payment Information

Summer Camp fees do not have to be paid all at once. Turn in the activity registration form to get your ID and Password, then set up your own payment schedule — paying some now and more later until paid in full.

What Parents Need to Do

  1. Turn in Activity Registration Form — Submit the form (from the info packet) to get your ID and Password for payments.
  2. Complete Medical Form — BSA Annual Health and Medical Record (Parts A, B, and C) with physician signature. Forms are valid for one year and cannot expire during Summer Camp. Download form (PDF)
  3. Pay at least $125 — Once paid, your Scout can sign up for merit badges (available by April 1, 2026).
  4. Help Choose Merit Badges — Work with your Scout to select merit badges. Note that most require pre-work before camp.
  5. Prepare Gear — Review the packing list in the Summer Camp Packet (distributed at the June meeting). You may bring your own cot if there is room.
  6. Departure Sunday Morning — Be ready for departure at approximately 5-6am on July 12. Exact time and location TBD.

First-time campers should check out the Trailblazer program! It teaches first-year Scouts everything needed for Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class requirements — camping, first aid, knots, lashings, swimming, map and compass, and nature skills.

The camp dining hall accommodates most dietary needs. Note all allergies and restrictions on the medical form. Contact us if your Scout has severe allergies so we can coordinate with camp staff.
We travel by car pool. There is a gas fee of $20-30 per person (exact amount set June 1, 2026 based on gas prices). Drivers/car owners do not pay this fee. The trip is approximately 8½ hours each way.
Yes! Adults can attend for $175 (before May 1) or $200 (May 1 and after). If you're interested in driving or attending, check the transportation box on the registration form.
Scouts arrive Sunday by 3pm, set up camp, complete medical checks and swim tests, then have dinner and activities. Monday through Friday, it's merit badge classes and activities after breakfast, with different evening activities each night including parents' night on Friday. Saturday morning is pack up and head home.
Absolutely. No Scout should miss summer camp due to cost. Contact the Scoutmaster confidentially to discuss options including payment plans, campership funds, and other assistance.
