Service is a core element of the Scouting program. Troop 25 participates in a variety of projects that strengthen our community, support charter partners, and help Scouts live the Scout Oath and Law through action.

Why Service Matters

Regular service develops empathy, responsibility, leadership, and citizenship. It also fulfills advancement requirements and prepares Scouts for larger leadership projects such as the Eagle Scout service project.

Common Troop Service Activities

  • Scouting for Food: Annual food drive supporting local hunger relief.
  • Memorial Good Turn: Honoring veterans through cemetery flag placement and care.
  • Seasonal Support: Holiday caroling, winter assistance, or special collection drives.
  • Chartered Organization Support: Projects that assist our sponsoring community.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Trail clean-up, conservation, and Leave No Trace education.

Tracking Service Hours

Keep an accurate record of service performed. Scouts should note the date, event name, hours served, and role performed. This information is important for rank advancement, leadership position evaluations, and merit badge work.

  • Bring your Scout handbook or service log to meetings for sign-off.
  • Document Eagle project participation separately if applicable.
  • Confirm which activities count toward rank or specific merit badges when in doubt.

How to Propose a Service Project

  1. Identify a genuine need in the community.
  2. Discuss the idea with your Patrol Leader or SPL.
  3. Outline objectives, materials, safety considerations, and estimated hours.
  4. Present the plan for approval to unit leadership (and beneficiary if required).
  5. Promote to the troop and organize logistics (sign-ups, equipment, directions).
  6. Execute, lead, debrief, and report hours.

“Every Good Turn strengthens both the community and the Scout who serves.”
