Merit badges are an important part of the Scouting program, allowing Scouts to explore interests and develop skills in specific subject areas. Troop 25 is fortunate to have many qualified adult volunteers who serve as Merit Badge Counselors.

What is a Merit Badge Counselor?

A Merit Badge Counselor is a knowledgeable adult who volunteers to teach and guide Scouts through the requirements of a specific merit badge. Counselors must be approved by the council and have expertise in their badge subject area.

How to Work with a Merit Badge Counselor

  1. Get permission from your Scoutmaster before starting work on any merit badge
  2. Contact the Merit Badge Counselor to schedule a meeting
  3. Come prepared with the merit badge requirements and any necessary materials
  4. Complete all requirements as outlined in the merit badge pamphlet
  5. Return to your Scoutmaster with the completed blue card

  • Counselor name and contact information
  • Merit badges they are qualified to counsel
  • Preferred meeting times and locations
  • Any special requirements or preparation needed

Becoming a Merit Badge Counselor

If you have expertise in a particular area and would like to volunteer as a Merit Badge Counselor, we would love to have you! Requirements include:

  • Knowledge and experience in the subject area
  • Completion of Youth Protection Training
  • Position-specific training for Merit Badge Counselors
  • Council approval
