A Board of Review is an important step in a Scout's advancement. It is not a retest of skills, but rather a conversation to discuss the Scout's experiences, growth, and understanding of Scouting principles. Below are sample questions organized by rank to help Scouts prepare.
What to Expect
- Reviews typically last 15-30 minutes depending on rank
- 3-6 adult committee members conduct the review
- Open-ended questions encourage discussion
- Focus is on experiences and personal growth, not retesting skills
Tenderfoot~15-20 minutes
This is the Scout's first Board of Review experience. Questions focus on how the Scout is fitting into the troop and their enjoyment of activities.

- Tell us about your patrol. What is your patrol name and why was it chosen?

This is the Scout's second Board of Review. Questions focus on Scout skills learned and how the Scout is functioning within their patrol.

- Reflect on your involvement in the patrol. How do you contribute?
- Describe a time when you worked well with your patrol on a task.
- How has your patrol worked together to solve a problem?

- Share a memorable experience from a recent campout and what you learned.
